politics, hypocrisy and meanness in public affairs, alligators, anti-empire-ism, occasional personal stuff

I am so-o-o tired of hearing politicians say, "The American people believe/want ________" or "The American people have spoken" (when the clearest thing the people have spoken about is electing an overwhelmingly Democratic Congress, along with a Democratic President, that the Repugnican talker refuses to recognize).

Isn't the whole point that the American (or, for some, Amurrican) people are not homogeneous?  Isn't more of the whole point that none of these (self-seeking) politicians knows or represents all or most of "The American people?"  And they don't care if they know, or represent - they only want to attack or be in charge, not actually represent, or deliberate.

How can  anyone trust a politician whose first priority appears to be his tan?
